Mwene Ndzale OBENGA Le royaume de Makoko In this article, the author deals with a great, but generally unknown, African kingdom — that of the Ma- koko lying to the North-East of the Kingdom of the Kongo. In a concise but thorough manner the author des- cribes the history of this Kingdom from prehistoric times up to the 18th. century, using written as well as oral data. The Kingdom's social life, political and administrative institutions, as well as its economic acti- vities, are studied in depth. The article follows a parti- cular methodology. IDENTIFICATION Le royaume des Teke (nsye Ateo) a requ plusieurs dénomi- nations dont les deux principales sont : le royaume d’Anzika et le royaume de Makoko.
