The climate often reaches Mediterranean levels, complementing Old
Riga’s outdoor buzz and café-terrace atmosphere, but is cooled
by the proximity of the sea, the city sounds laced by the cries of
seagulls.
If the temperature gets too hot, what better way to escape than
fleeing to the nearby coastal resort of Jurmala, whose restorative
powers after a hard day’s sightseeing are renowned.
At the end of
July, Jurmala again plays host to New Wave, an international competition for young, upcoming singers and simultaneous music
