The current research investigated the secondary school students’ environmental literacy levels and the effects of various variables on their environmental literacy levels. The study was carried out with the participation of 525 secondary school students (5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades) selected from 6 different secondary schools in the city of Bitlis in Turkey in 2013-2014 school year. In order to collect the data in the study, “Elementary School Environmental Literacy Scale” was administered and in the analysis of the gathered data, descriptive statistics, Mann Whitney U-Test and Kruskal Wallis H-Test were employed. At the end of the study, it was concluded that the students’ environmental literacy level is medium in general.
