The objective of this article was to reflect on undergraduate Nursing education based on competencies, besides pointing out the challenges and perspectives in the teaching profession for the 21st century, in the light of the reference Philippe Perrenoud. It is a theoretical reflection, based on the deepening of the master's thesis, whose object of research was the teaching competences for the completion of theoretical-practical knowledge in nursing teaching. In an approach focused on the development of competences, both the teaching profession and the professional praxis of students, teaching is understood as a strategy that enables the integration of theoretical-practical teaching in Nursing graduation. The need for an emancipatory, democratic, critical and reflexive higher education is thus reaffirmed, enabling a differentiated teaching and adding values for a more scientific and autonomous Nursing, with a view to the development of professional competences.
