History The Shrine of St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina was officially and canonically established on Aug. 15, 2001, on the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. Our first Mass was held on Sept. 23, 2001, in a local public school cafeteria, and after moving to two other cafeterias, we finally dedicated our current worship space and six religious education classrooms in 2008. In 2014, we added six more classrooms and a professional kitchen to accommodate our growth. Although there are centers and grottos in his honor in locations throughout the United States, our parish is the first canonically established parish honoring St. Padre Pio in the country. Canonized on June 16, 2002, St. Padre Pio is revered the world over as the first priest in the Catholic Church to receive the stigmata (the five wounds of Christ’s passion) and as a man of prayer and devotion to the sacrament of reconciliation.
