Oscar board strips Christian movie of ‘Best Song’
nomination
When little-known Christian period piece “Alone Yet Not Alone,” scored an Oscar nomination
for Best Song, everyone--detractors and supporters--was surprised.
Now, everyone can calm down because the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
board of governors decided to revoke the song's nomination.
The board invalidated the song's nomination because Bruce Broughton, a former member of the
board of governors, lobbied for the song when he e-mailed people to let them know about his
submission during the nominations voting period.
Broughton's personal e-mails violated the Academy’s rules.
No other song will be nominated in place of “Alone Yet Not Alone” when the final ballots are
sent out Feb. 14.
According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, “Alone Yet Not Alone” grossed less than $135,000
and played on 11 screens nationwide for one week in October.
