Andrew Maddox and Joshua Sidin are going back to
high school.
The mechanical engineering seniors hope their education plan, the Maddox-Sidin
Education Reform Plan, helps
K-12 students understand and
maybe pursue a field in the
math and sciences with the
help of mentors who happen
to be engineering students at
UTA.
The duo, who hope to give
the plan a one-year trial run
next fall, is looking for input
and ideas for funding.
The plan is in its conceptual phase,
they said.
Maddox and Sidin have pitched their plan to
a UTA engineering administrator, elementary and high
school assistant principals and to former Florida Gov.
Jeb Bush, who visited UTA on Friday for the Maverick
Speakers Series.
Nationwide, students are having trouble grappling the
math and sciences, Maddox said.
And it’s evident at all
levels, especially in higher education, he noted, adding
that many schools have tutoring labs for their students.
