The professional development approaches of the next decade will
not be workshops; they must be workgroups with teachers working
together in and across schools and systems cooperatively to improve
teaching and learning, and build schools into collaborative learning
communities.
They will be based on providing opportunities for
teachers to make informed choices based on their own welldeveloped principle-centered approach to teaching and learning.
They will not be mandated, disconnected, short term or piecemeal.
We need to give the responsibility for learning to the adult student.
Learning is a continuous, self-directed process constructed through
experience (action) and reflection (thinking about our actions and
behavior and values).
We as future educators must embrace the
collaborative concept of instruction and challenge our adult learners
to do the same.
Always look forward to the next collaboration
opportunity.
