Bilingualism Goes From Strength to Strength
Our part-bilingual stream is now well
established in Years 7, 8 and 9. The
initiative, developed by Mr David
Williams and Mrs Karen Taylor in 2011,
was set up to encourage and develop
spoken Welsh within the classroom.
The Form Period and PSE lesson are
delivered bilingually along with 25% of the
curriculum. Although all written work is
carried out in the medium of English, the
opportunity to extend Welsh written skills
is provided in Welsh lessons.
Our main aim is to give these pupils the
opportunity to develop their bilingual skills
and equip them with the confidence to
use the Welsh language confidently in
situations outside of the classroom now
and in the future.
For the first time this year, a number of
pupils in Year 8 sat a Welsh GCSE module 3
years early. These pupils were all successful
and are looking forward to completing their
Welsh GCSE in Year 9.
