As part of the revamp of
European air quality policies –
and the 2013 ‘Year of the Air’
– the Commission has
launched an online
consultation.
Both public and experts
have separate questionnaires
on the shape of air quality
policy. The results will feed
into a comprehensive review
of Europe’s air policies due
this year. There are three
main drivers behind the
review:
Resolve the widespread
breach of the existing legal
obligations, focusing on
reducing transboundary
background pollution that
undermines efforts by local
authorities to reach
compliance whilst maintaining
and possibly reinforcing
effective enforcement;
Ensure coherence between
the recently amended
Gothenburg Protocol and the
newly agreed emission
ceilings for 2020;
Set new interim objectives
for 2025 and/or 2030.
The Commission adds:
