Marco
Marco was 7 years old when his mother was deported without informing authorities of her child,
leaving him with his step-father, Diego.
Unprepared to parent a seven year old who had lost his
mother, Diego began locking Marco in his room and denying him food as punishment for
misbehaving.
By the time Marco’s biological father gained custody, Marco had experienced repeated
abuse, was terrified of locked doors, and couldn’t stand being alone in his room or the bathroom.
He lived in constant fear that Diego was going to kidnap him.
He was withdrawn at school, eating
lunch alone and avoiding the other children on the playground.
