Cat5E network cables are an enhancement over the older version Cat5 cables.
These cables are based on
standard specified by EIA/TIA-568-B.
All the factors required for the performance of these cables is in
accordance with these standards.
A further enhancement over these cables has also been released.
They are called Cat6 cables.
Although these newer versions can carry data at a higher speed, they are
more expensive.
For all practical purposes, Cat5E network cables are considered adequate and they
provide satisfactory performance.
What is the difference between Cat5 and Cat5E cables?
The major difference between Cat5 and Cat5E cables is in terms of speed.
Cat5E network cables can
offer data transfer speed of up to 1 gigabit while the older version could only transmit at 100 Megabit
speed.
