SMU breaks ground on Payne Stewart learning center at DAC
ayne Stewart always dreamed that SMU would have its own practice facility to
attract the world’s top juniors.
On June 15, that dream became closer to reality when
SMU broke ground on the Payne Stewart Golf Learning Center on the grounds of
Dallas Athletic Club.
The center will consist of a teaching facility featuring
two indoor hitting bays with state-of-the-art video swing
analysis and media-enhanced conference meeting room.
It includes a team clubhouse with men’s and women’s
locker rooms, a Hall of Champions, coaches’ offices and
a study/computer center.
And it will feature a four-hole
short game course planned by Chet Williams of Nicklaus
Design.
The short-game course will create a multitude of
practice stations for every conceivable lie or situation,
and two large putting greens—one Bentgrass and one
Bermuda.
