Continued recruitment from St
Mary’s Hospital, Paddington
(Katherine Rogers) and Chelsea
Westminster Hospital (Nita
Solanky) is aiming to reach the
target of 2500 trios by June 2014.
Since the last newsletter (number
5) in July 2013, the recruiting
team have continued focussing
on meeting monthly recruiting
targets and ensuring trios are
completed by chasing fathers and
being there at the birth of the
baby and collecting the placenta.
At the end of November this
year 2361 mothers had been
recruited and of these 1518 are
accompanied by recruited
fathers. 1269 trios are complete
with mother, father and baby.
In total we have 50,242
individual samples in the BBB.
These are made up of Mum and
Dad’s whole blood; plasma;
serum; DNA and also Mum’s
urine. In addition we have
several samples of placenta,
pieces of cord, cord blood and
DNA and RNA from the baby.
