The issue of Early Marriage started to gain
increased attention lately in Georgia.
Identified cases of child marriage, which are
especially common in rural areas, remain to be
truly heart-breaking. Child spouses are believed to be incapable of giving full consent,
meaning that child marriages should be considered a violation of human rights and the rights
of the child.
United Nations Population Fund is vigorously
working in this direction to protect rights of
girls and boys, who are the victims of this
harmful practice. No previous research shedding light on the cases of Early Marriage, its
reasons, consequences and relevant recommendations have been developed before in
