The Wine Festival is since 1961 one of the featured events in
Limassol which is considered the Cypriot capital of wine.
The
festival is organized in the public garden of Limassol and lasts
for 12 days.
The Wine Festival is inspired by the ancient
festivals in honour of the god Dionysus and honours the long
tradition of winemaking in Cyprus.
The giant figure of a
traditional Cypriot at the entrance of the public gardens during
the festival welcomes local and foreign visitors.
At the festival
the visitors can try the Cypriot wines and traditional Cypriot
food.
There is a small entrance fee.
Visitors can taste wine for
free.
You can see a traditional wine press, traditional dances
and songs and dramatic performances.
There is also a museum
with items which people used many years ago to make wine.
