ithin the EU, some countries have suffered
from relying too heavily on gas imports in
the past.
When faced with such dependency,
member states quickly understood that the
best response to such threats was to come
from within the union.
With particular regard
to gas, efforts have been numerous, such as progress in building liquefied natural gas terminals, as well as the establishment
of crucial legislation securing gas interconnections – through
reverse flow capacity, for example – and imposing a solidarity
obligation among member states.
Despite these achievements,
the EU must strive to diversify gas imports still further.
