“Young people with one or more
abilities developed to a level
significantly ahead of their year group
(or with the potential to develop these
abilities).
” DCSF guidance
At Ecclesfield School, we have a many ways to
identify students including:
Teacher nomination and checklist
Testing – attainment, ability, potential
Assessment of students’ work
Information from parents
The school monitors identified students and
looks for gifts and talents in all learners
including:
Physical talents in sport
ability rather than achievement, so that
underachievers are amongst those
identified
Leadership and social awareness
High intelligence (e.
g.
exceptional
mathematical or linguistic ability)
Creativity
We aim to ensure that a minimum of 10% of
students from each year group are identified
as Gifted and Talented and a further 20% are
identified as being Able.
