On January 18, 2010, the brothers of the Omicron Chapter were very active in bringing together people from campuses across
Pittsburgh in order to celebrate Brother Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr.
on his national holiday.
In the morning the chapter did
community service with the Black Action Society at the University of Pittsburgh and later that day, the brothers held a candle
light vigil as well as a discussion on a topic that many people surprisingly didn’t know much about: Brother W.
E.
B.
Du Bois
concept of “The Talented Tenth.
” At the vigil, we briefly spoke about Dr.
King, his legacy, and the impact he’s had not only on
the black community but the entire nation.
We then sung “Lift Every Voice” in a group of nearly 100 while walking across the
University of Pittsburgh campus in order to get to our next destination and begin our discussion.
The discussion was very interactive and controversial, but the environment was needed to
help people better grasp W.
E.
B.
Du Bois concept.
