The Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP) was launched in March 2005 as a trilateral effort among Canada, the United States and Mexico. The initiative is designed to strengthen the continent’s competitiveness and enhance the security and quality of life of its people through additional cooperation and information sharing. At the time of its launch, the SPP was considered the most significant development in continental integration since the introduction of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
