1973
With the Arab nations still recovering from defeat in 67
and Nasser s position weakened, a new leader
emerged to challenge Israel and to advance the
Palestinian cause.
That leader was Yasser Arafat.
After he assumed control of the Palestinian Liberation
Organization in 1969, Fatah, along with affiliated
groups such as the PFLP carried out a wave of
terrorist attrocities both inside and beyond the borders
of Israel .
The war had become assymetric, pitting
Israel against disparate terrorist groups and the PLO
which became the dominant voice of Palestinian
demands for an Arab state in Palestine.
As emphasis
shifted to the international aspect, Arab nations found
a new weapon, at their disposal - economic sanctions
imposed through oil.
