Instruments and Kids Budget Cuts Music Education from Schools Introduction Instruments and Kids is a nonprofit located in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was founded by the rock band, The Oaks, in 2012 in response to the government defunding of music education in schools to teach children how to play instruments who otherwise would not have the opportunity. Instruments and music lessons are provided to the children, and a recording studio is available for older students with a passion for recording their own music. Ultimately, Instruments and Kids seeks to give music back to the children and the community. The Issue Since the start of the recession in late 2007, funds have been cut from more than 80 percent of U.S. school districts across the country, which adds up to over $1.2 billion cut by the U.S. Department of Education.
