The scene begins with diegetic sound of a rough sea played over a dark screen, this positions the sea as being menacing and creepy as you are normally scared of what you can’t see. The sea then fades into the shot and we see it through a close up high angled shot. The dawn time setting leaves the sea mostly in the dark but with the rising sun reflecting off the waves. The lighting creates a clear back drop for the edited fading credits to appear gradually through the opening The camera continues from the same angle but the screen fades into a different image with a dark sea merging with a lighter shaded sea. While the concept of the sea stays the same the contrasting colours imply the film will consist of both good and evil. The image of a flying black eagle in the middle of the shot foreshadows the abnormality of the film as it’s placed within the frame of the sea.
