‘How on earth can you justify spending
8 weeks on King John?’
In Teaching History 92 I outlined an eight week
programme of work for Year 7 centred on one of the
most notorious figures in history – King John.

Many
teachers responded positively to this article.
There
are now a number of departments who challenge
their pupils to take part in the history Grand Prix,
providing their pupils with the motivation and
structured guidance needed to produce an analytical
piece of extended writing.
However, whilst teachers
welcomed the opportunity to drive their pupils
through evidence chicanes and tackle high speed
