It is important to note that evidence is essential for historians. However, evidence can vary in its usefulness.
Sometimes evidence can be very useful but sometimes evidence can be extremely misleading for
historians. You need to think about the value of evidence very carefully, rather like a lawyer in a court case.
You should watch two very different pieces of film, a documentary made in 1916 called “The
Somme” , a film called “All Quiet on the Western Front” from 1930 and a recent TV comedy made in
the 1980’s called “Blackadder goes Forth”, a film from 1999 called “The Trench” and finally a film called
“Warhorse” from 2011.
