Thomas Tallis School
Literacy Policy
Language is the prime medium through which students learn, think and express
themselves.
The development of literacy for communication skills is an entitlement for
all students and the responsibility of the whole school community; it is at the heart of
teaching and learning and should be taught systematically and consistently across the
curriculum.
The staff of Thomas Tallis School is committed to developing literacy skills in all our
students in the belief that this will support their learning, impact on their self-esteem,
motivation and behaviour, and empower them to learn independently, whilst also raising
standards across the curriculum.
All schemes of work and most lessons will include specific literacy objectives; literacy
should form part of lesson starters and or plenaries when it is appropriate to the focus of
the lesson.
