9th out of the 222 Secondary Schools in Wales!
The BBC requested secondary school performance data for all
222 secondary schools in Wales under the Freedom of
Information Act earlier this year.
This data, which measures the
extent to which a school has contributed to a pupil’s progress,
has never been made public before.
Bryngwyn School in Llanelli
was placed 9th out of the 222 secondary schools in Wales.
These ratings are calculated by taking the predicted GCSE scores
from a pupil on entry to secondary school and then comparing them
to what the pupil actually achieves.
Schools like Bryngwyn, where
pupils exceed these initial GCSE predictions, have high ‘value
added’ ratings.
This measure takes into consideration factors
outside a school’s control such as socio economic factors, special
needs, etc and is considered to be a much fairer way of rating
schools compared to the conventional school league tables where
