End of an era
Environmental Protection UK is
to close.
All staff are to be made
redundant from the Brighton
based organisation, the UK’s
oldest environmental charity
(113 years old).
Epuk boss James Grugeon
and trustees are currently
consulting membership, other
charities and corporates in an
attempt to salvage something
from the closure, which will
come at the end of the financial
year (March 2012).
It is possible
that current committee members
and regional representatives
could continue some key
functions entirely in voluntary
form.
Particularly valued are
policy, air quality guidelines,
the pollution control handbook
and until recently, conferences.
Epuk has been cutting its
cloth in recent months and it
was no secret that funding was
tight, however the speed of the
closure has taken many by
surprise.
