By Rachel Rigney There are certain things that SCC students take for granted, and one is the availability of tutors. But currently, there is shortage of tutors at all SCC locations. In fact, two of the college’s centers— Russell and McCreary—have no official tutors. According to Assistant Professor/Librarian Devin Phelps, the issue is not funding but finding qualified applicants. “It is really difficult to get qualified tutors because we rely on professors’ suggestions to find people who would be good for it,” he said. There are currently no students trained for tutoring duties in any subject area at Russell or McCreary, and it is unclear when that might change, Phelps said. The Clinton Center has one tutor available but needs more. “Right now, we have Crystal Stinson, who can tutor for English and transitional-level math,” Phelps said. “But we definitely need to have someone who can tutor for Math 150 and above.” Fortunately, there is help on the way at Clinton. “We currently have two
