San Jose Plastic Surgeons Join Breast Implant Registry
In a recent meeting between the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the
Food and Drug Administration (FDA), itwas decided thata national breast implant registry
would be created.
This registry was created in response to recent reports of a rare
lymphoma developing in women who participated in breast implantsurgery.
San Jose
Plastic Surgeons have announced they willbe participating in this registry and encourage
all theirpatients to participate as well.
By encouraging their patients to participate, the
plastic surgeons hope to create enough meaningful data to help fightthe rare disease.
The ASPS and FDA are addressing this rare condition as not breast cancer.
The ASPS
along with San Jose Plastic Surgeons have concluded thatbreast implants are stillsafe.
This particular lymphoma forms only around scar tissue from breast implant surgery and of
the ten million worldwide implants only 34 cases were identified since 1989
