Abstract
Man’s activities in the past have induced environmental changes in local ecosystems.
At the
same time, natural phenomena have influenced the conservation of architectonic heritage.
The
historical landscape, as we see it today, is nothing but the dynamic and constantly evolving result of this interaction.
The study area, which corresponds to the Neogene basin of the Torrent Chifente (central Apennines, Marche Region, Italy), is characterised by the cropping out of foretrench basin pelitic
units.
Furthermore, it is affected by widespread gully erosion processes which have produced
badland morphology.
