New housing in Ashford is of poor quality and lacks community and social facilities, according to the
Audit Commission’s report.
The claims are strenuously denied by Ashford Borough Council

ASHFORD’S housing developments are poor quality and do not
provide social or economic benefits,
says the Audit Commission.
Yet the council has vigorously defended its
record on growth, following a critical report
from the watchdog set up to monitor local
Government performance.
The commission gave Ashford council, and
KCC, a one star (fair) rating out of three.
It said the two bodies had done well at delivering the infrastructure for the town’s expansion, but were less successful when it came to
the quality of development and the community facilities to support the growth.
